THE WELL HEAD CENTRE – Bourne, LincolnshireWell Head

The Well Head Centre is a safe and supportive environment for adults over 18 years of age who are suffering an emotional crisis and may benefit from having some time away from their current situation.

In September 2009 we were given the use of one of 4 very large bungalows in a complex here in Bourne. The owner of the adjacent Printing Company let us have the bungalow on a four year lease. We have been preparing the bungalow for occupation since that time as it was in a terrible state inside. The windows were all boarded up, many of them were smashed and had to be replaced. We enlisted the help of many willing volunteers which included professionals too. Most of them have given their time and skills without payment. We have been blessed with gifts and donations along the way and we know that God is our provider and He will, and has provided everything we need.

The Centre provides accommodation on a short-term basis of up to 7 nights. Guests have their own rooms, but share communal facilities with other guests. The Centre accommodates people of all religions and cultures and is free of charge to its guests. Support staff, who are all unpaid volunteers, are on site 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The Centre has 6 beds available all of which are on the ground floor. Guests must be assessed and referred by either a doctor, a nurse, health visitor or the pastor of their church, and also meet the referral criteria of The Well Head Centre. We currently have 13 referees who have agreed to refer people to us. At the referral stage, referees are required to give details of associated risk and make clear the reasons why the person requires referral to the Centre so that the correct decision can be made about where the individual will be best suited. Depending on availability, admission may be immediate or can be booked for a later date. For pictures click here.

Five different churches in Bourne and the surrounding villages are represented by around 30 volunteers helping in this project. They provide practical help, prayer support and individual financial help. We also have a Prayer Support Team of over 100 people from local churches, churches across the nation and around the world. The Board of Trustees is drawn from 4 churches, 3 of which are local to Bourne.

The Centre was officially opened by Councillor Mrs Pet Moisey, the former Mayor of Bourne, in May 2011. For pictures click here.

News of the Centre spread to Lincoln and the City Mayor, having been impacted by what she had heard, requested a visit. In July 2011, the Mayor along with her Consort, the City Sherriff and his Lady, and the newly appointed Mayor of Bourne visited the Centre. For pictures click here. In the words of the City Sherriff, “This is Christianity in action!”
