These are just some of the comments we’ve had from clients who are really grateful for the love, care and support they’ve received while working with Christians Against Poverty and Open Door Church Peterborough.
Our Church leadership has always had a vision and desire to help those in our community struggling with the effects of debt and poverty. They knew they needed to respond to this growing problem and approached Christians Against Poverty to see if they had the answer. To cut a long story short, we had the privilege of opening a CAP centre in Peterborough in 2007. Since then we have seen nearly 100 families in and around the city who have called on us to help them get back on track with their finances.
Their stories are often heartbreaking with many suffering from depression, stress and relationship breakdown. Lots of them have thought about or tried suicide because of the pressure of the debts.
Bringing hope to a family in their own home is just amazing! Most clients tell you they feel a weight has been lifted from them after their first visit from a CAP debt coach. You can usually see their faces change in front of you because they believe there is a way forward to get them debt free. We have seen 17 people become Christians through this work. Some are now attending Church and are really getting to know God. We are seeing lives transformed as people become disciples of Jesus Christ and grow into the person God made them to be. This is the icing on the cake!
