The Story so far….
It started as an idea from young people involved in the churches and schools near the centre of
In 2010 Churches Together in
After the trial it was clear that the project needed a part-time youth worker with the experience to coordinate and develop the project long term. Over the last year, Churches Together in Central Peterborough have led the way in helping the Inspirations Studio idea become a sustainable reality by underwriting the funding for a part-time youth worker until February 2014. It is hoped that by this time the project will be more sustainable through different grants, regular giving from individuals & churches as well as fundraising events. To enable the project to start the City council has funded the running expenses until September 2011. The project has been running from the back of a city centre Church, meeting with young people to plan how the project would develop and running occasional youth activities. From Saturday 18th June 2011 the project will be re-launched based in Queensgate shopping centre for at least 3 months, sharing a unit with a Citizens Power project.
The objectives of the project
· To open a safe space for young people in the city centre to meet together, engage in positive activities & build relationships with local youth workers and community volunteers.
· Reduce anti-social behaviour in the city centre.
· Promote an all age & intergenerational approach in the city.
· Support young people to reinforce a positive image of themselves through creative and innovative ways.
· For young people to be actively involved in the planning, delivery and evaluation of the city centre facilities and activities.
· Supporting disadvantaged young people. Advocating for those accessing or wanting to access the city centre.
· To create a sustainable model of delivery, encouraging and developing volunteers and young support workers.
