We can’t tell exactly how many people will be at the Event but there is a huge amount of enthusiasm from people when they hear about what is planned for it.
And there will be lots stands manned by Christian Groups (including secular groups that have a substantial Christian presence) working within the City who you can talk to about what they are doing and what opportunities they are seeing and what help they are needing.
Watch this space as there will be more updates telling you more as we get closer to the Event on 9 April
Invitation to 9 April Event
Dear Friend,
On the 9th April the Christian community of Peterborough is invited to join together in unity and love. In John 17 the Bible records our Lord Jesus praying that we be one. This prayer then goes on to relate this oneness to the world believing in Him and knowing that He was sent by our Father in heaven. Peterborough cries out to know that Jesus is the Christ, the Messiah, the Saviour and our oneness and unity provides a platform for many of these cries being answered.
Already, there are many expressions of unity and oneness across the city. Christians from different denominations join together on social projects, congregations meet for joint services, brothers and sisters meet to share challenges at work or business. April 9th is a celebration of the journey we are on as a growing church in our city.
We are being hosted by the Voyager School in Walton and the doors will be open from 10am. At 11am our time together will officially start and we will have our closing words at 3pm. We will be putting on refreshments and a lunch to sustain you, and provide a warm atmosphere that comes from eating together.
There will be stands, presentations and information concerning some of the amazing work that the church does in the city. It will encourage you to know how much we are all doing and the lives that we are changing for the better. It may stimulate prayer for this work or even thoughts of involvement where possible.
There will be a sharing of the Network Peterborough story. An opportunity will be given to hear how Network Peterborough has supported the church and a space for feedback on how we can do better.
We will hear from Peterborough City Council Chief Executive Gillian Beasley, on how the church can make a difference in these challenging times. We will be asking for a response to such questions as “Where do you need us to focus our energies?”, “What are the challenges our communities face?” and “How can you support us more to make a greater impact on our streets?”
“The big, giant state monopolies – we’re breaking them open to get new ideas in. Saying to the people who work in our public services – set up a mutual, establish a co-operative, do things your way. Saying to business, faith groups, charities, social enterprises – come in and provide a great service.”
David Cameron, Birmingham, 6th October 2010
We hope to hear from our Christian artists, poets and musicians to give an interpretation of God’s heart for the city. Young people will provide a display of photographs of their streets and what they feel God is laying on their hearts for this time. This will provide visual stimulation for our reflection and prayer.
Plenty of space will be made to talk, think and debate about what we have seen and heard. Every person who attends has something special on their heart from God and we will do our best to facilitate a real sharing of ideas and thoughts. This may lead to a new big idea for the city, a new initiative or project. Alternatively, this may lead to a very small change in one of our hearts that is unseen and very personal. It really does not matter. What is important is that we come open to hear from God, respond accordingly and take another step on our faith journey together.
We believe that God will bring together many different Christians and we are doing our best to invite representation from all denominations. Although there will be no crèche/supervised facilities for children we welcome all ages and wheelchair access is also available.
Do pass this invite on and please do pray for the event. We believe that God is going to do great things by our physical expression of His unified body. We believe that all of us together can make a difference and we believe that each one of us is needed to make a difference.
.....that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me.
John 17:21
We look forward to seeing you.
