CROPS...what’s it all about?cropslogo
The CROPS Trust (Christian Options in Peterborough Schools) has been in operation since 1989, working with children & young people in primary and secondary schools, in the community and across local churches.
CROPS acts as a hub networking churches, youth leaders and young people together and training youth or schools workers.
The latest developments in CROPS’ schoolswork centre on Project 567, which started in January 2009. Project 567 aims to reach out to primary school children in years 5 & 6, and to support them through the transition time into secondary school. This project has regular contact with 15 primary schools in Peterborough. Matt Wild (CROPS Director) delivers the trust’s work in secondary schools supporting C.U.s, running lunch clubs, presenting assemblies, RE lessons, and mentoring students with additional needs. All of this work is supported by the current gap year volunteers, who spend a year working with CROPS.
thepointFor the majority of its life CROPS has networked young people from local churches, and currently with:
The Point - a monthly city-wide worship event (held at Park Road Baptist Church). The Point includes a Cafe, Nintendo Wii, Tuck Shop & Christian literature & media stall, plus live worship, a challenging message and an opportunity for response and prayer. The event is aimed at secondary school age young people.
The Letton Hall Houseparty - a residential event with a discipleship edge that runs in the February and October half terms. 60-80 young people regularly attend for 4 days of inspirational teaching, worship, with a full indoor & outdoor activities programme (inc go-karting) and evening entertainments!
Street Invasion – Peterborough’s week of youth led mission. Street Invasion is a challenging evangelistic opportunity based in various locations across the city of Peterborough, Street Invasion 2010which seeks to develop the gifts and skills of young people and to see their lives radically changed for God. Through giving up 4 days to embark on training, evangelism and social action, young people l invade the streets of Peterborough befriending young people and boldly sharing their faith in new, relevant and exciting ways. Street Invasion is happening 3-7 August 2010.

CROPS are looking to the future, with a desire to deepen the impact of their work in schools and the community, serving young people in Peterborough. If you would like to know more or would like to become involved then please contact CROPS through their website www.crops.org.uk
