OPTIONS - Training for Volunteer Advisors

Options, a Crisis Pregnancy and Post-abortion Centre, is part of a national organisation called CareConfidential and is one of 150 centres around the country.  The Peterborough centre, run by Christians with various Church backgrounds, was opened 8 years ago and has sought to be a space where women and men, who find themselves in a crisis pregnancy situation, have space and advice to consider the options open to them.    Women may feel rushed into making a decision which they come to regret so we also offer a Post-abortion programme. There are nearly 200,000 abortions in England and Wales each year.

Four years ago, we felt that God was saying to us that we needed to move into the community to be closer to where people are. So we began to pray to discover what that would mean.   We were then invited to go into the women’s prison to work with women who had abortions.   Four advisors have been working once a week since then dealing also with baby loss of all kinds, plus early adoption and more and more with women who have had children taken into care and then adopted.

Just recently, new opportunities have opened up for us to be on call in community houses/centres and elsewhere in Peterborough. We have also agreed that from September we will work in the men’s prison. This is all very exciting but it means that our staffing is stretched and we need to train some new advisors and we would hope to start a course this September.
