applesFood for homeless in Peterborough: volunteer drivers needed

Today I went to Sainsbury’s in March loading bay, and my hatch back car was loaded to the roof with bread, cakes, fruit and vegetables. It took me about ten minutes careful planning to pack everything in.

When I got to the destination in Peterborough the manager was not there. I learnt he would be away for a couple of hours so I started unloading from my car and stored the trays in a corridor which was not used very much. As I was unloading, a man who was a homeless resident started helping and soon I had two more come and help and soon we had the full load in the corridor.

One of these homeless residents told me, that last week they waited until 2pm, but the delivery did not arrive and many of them had empty food cupboards, and were dependant on the food being delivered. I apologised for the missing delivery. As I thanked them for their help, I asked them to think about the Lord Jesus as they celebrate His birthday.

On my journey home to March, I thought about the difficulty I have getting dependable volunteer drivers. I also thought about the number of occasions the good wholesome food has gone in a skip because we have not got a driver to deliver.

Perhaps as you read this and you have a suitable vehicle, then you might consider if you are able to help in this important work. Please phone or email me and I will gladly try answer your questions and provide any help you need.
