Cursillo
In April 2005, I found myself saying: “yes, I’ll attend a Cursillo weekend”. My sponsor told me the basics about the weekend & she said it’s full of surprises. I dreaded going because I wanted to know all the in’s & out’s before I attended. I went in faith and I trusted my sponsor.
Cursillo is pronounced "kur-see-yo”, it’s a spanish word meaning short course in Christianity. Cursillo is a method of supporting and encouraging our lives as Christians.
I was in a quandary because I felt called by God, but I didn’t know what too! My sponsor said this weekend would really help me! So I went in faith!
I attended the weekend and it was brilliant, just the lift I needed!
My Cursillo weekend followed the pattern of Easter - Good Friday, Easter Saturday & Easter Sunday. During the weekend we ate together, we learnt, we prayed together, we shared, we sang, and we laughed (I did shed some tears too).
We had Holy Communion each day with meditations. We had 15 short talks – subjects like Grace, Faith, Sacraments, Evangelism, community in action etc.
We had a few surprises which were awesome – (you have to experience the weekend to find them out). These surprises and the whole weekend made me experience the unconditional love and grace of God and the Joy of being a Christian.
Who is it for? (Anyone who’s baptised & over 18)
- Curious
- Searching
- Discovering
- Growing
- Wanting to be joyful & confident in their faith
Cursillo doesn’t stop at the weekend you’re then be invited to Area gatherings, prayer meetings, socials etc.
If I’ve interested you please look at the Cursillo website: www.peterboroughcursillo.org.uk or telephone 01536 513385 (Rev Dominic Barrington).
It really gave me the extra confidence and an opportunity to grow in faith. I found what I was called to do. In May 2007 I was licensed as a Parish Evangelist & now in 2009 I’m training at Ripon College, Cuddesdon for the ordained ministry.
Pray & seek God’s guidence and he will direct your path.
