Introducing Christian Aid’s Volunteer Youth Advocate
 My name is Katie Delamere and I am going to be working for Christian Aid over the next year as the Volunteer Youth Advocate based in the Peterborough office.
Christian Aid is a Christian organisation that insists the world can and must be swiftly changed to one where everyone can live a full life, free from poverty. We work globally for profound change that eradicates the causes of poverty, striving to achieve equality, dignity and freedom for all, regardless of faith or nationality.
I decided to spend the next year working for Christian Aid because I want to work to eradicate poverty, end climate injustice and to make a positive difference to the world in which we live.
In October I am going to visit some of Christian Aid’s partner organisations in Kenya with several other Volunteer Youth Advocates. While there I will see how Christian Aid works with local organisations on the ground to make a real difference to other people’s lives. After this trip I will be willing to share my experiences and also to talk about how others can get involved with Christian Aid’s work in developing countries. I am also going to Copenhagen to campaign about climate justice as the world leaders gather to discuss climate change, I am very passionate about all of the issues that Christian Aid care about.
My job involves talking to young people about Christian Aid and inspiring them to get involved with development issues. The work of Christian Aid often fits into religious education and general studies curriculum and there are many ways in which I can get involved such as leading workshops, giving talk about a wide range of topics such as Climate Change, HIV and Conflict, visiting youth groups, school councils and Christian unions.
