Revival
Books on revival are always worth reading- they do something to us! Reading of God the Holy Spirit moving in the lives of others in different nations and different times can awake in us a desire to pray that God would do the same for us.
Nine O’clock In The Morning tells the story of Dennis Bennett and his discovery of the baptism of the Holy Spirit. First written in 1970, it was a revolutionary book in its day, heralding in a new understanding of the Holy Spirit to many churches in our nation. Revival Fire by Wesley Duewel takes us on a whistle stop tour of some of the great revivals through history. Easy to read and with powerful effects!
Why not go back in time and meet the first modern missionary? William Carey was told ‘Sit down young man! When God chooses to convert the heathen, he will do it without your aid or mine!’ Thankfully, this particular young man ignored that particular warning and in 1793, sailed to India. His call was tested, losing his child to dysentery and his wife to madness, but he persevered. ‘Expect great things from God. Attempt great things for God’ was the call of his life. Many Christians in India owe their faith to the first steps of a radical man. Read it in William Carey –Obliged to Go by Janet & Geoff Benge.
No Compromise is the thrilling story of Keith Green, a man who lived what he spoke. Both prophet and musician, he had an uncompromising call to holiness. And finally, a modern autobiography telling the story of Hong Kong’s walled city people and the amazing work of one woman to reach them. Chasing the Dragon by Jackie Pullinger is an easy read but not an easy book. You will be challenged.
