Taking to the streets in Peterborough

networkpeterboroughorg“It hasn’t rained once yet!” said Sharon Walker, Priest in Charge of St Mary’s Peterborough. This is good news for the group of Christians from Peterborough who have been outside the city’s market every Saturday morning since August, offering prayer for healing to passers by.

It’s an offer that has been taken up too, whether it’s by someone worried about a loved one fighting cancer, a young man expecting to join the army and facing up to his excitement and fear, or any number of good natured encounters with people going about their daily lives.

“The market is part of our parish”, said Michael Moore, Curate at St Mary’s. “It’s great to get to know the stallholders and we often bump into people we know from other things we do. The other day I went to visit someone about a funeral and he said, ‘you’re the bloke who prayed for me at the market the other day!’”

Prayer on the Square is an ecumenical scheme and has been the vision of Pauline Wills from Stanground Baptist Church for some time. “Things came together and it now seems to be God’s time to do this,” she said. “We have about ten people on the rota, and four or five of these come each Saturday from 11.30am to 12.30pm.”

I have just started working in Peterborough & attend Trent Vineyard in Nottingham. It is good to see Healing on the Streets here in Peterborough. I am involved in a Nottingham team & we have seen God do amazing things. Last month I had prayer for right hip pain,I was found to have one leg shorter than the other. During prayer my left leg grew 1 cm! One word of encouragement is to press on even if you don't always see immediate results. People become aware of your presence week on week & months later will come for prayer. Also people who have received prayer often call back weeks later to tell of their healing. May God bless you in this ministry. Julie Darkin
